@Yellow: Thanks! I don't know whether I'd recommend a Canon. My decision to buy it was mostly based on economics (it was much cheaper than Nikon) but Nikon apparently has a much better dynamic range which can come in handy. Than again most of the pictures I really like are shot by Canons so this may just be a case of the grass is greener on the other side. I think in the end it doesn't matter what your camera is but more about how you use it and based on your work at aminus3 I think you'll be fine.
